Get Ugly in PERTH, Australia

14-18 Feb, Noodle Palace

Living in the trendy part of town, Tamar has become uncharacteristically nervous about leaving the house. She is convinced there must be more to life than dodging hipsters, envying gym girls and keeping body hair under control.

Fresh from a five-star sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, award-winning comedy-songwriter Tamar makes her Perth debut with a sparkling show about over-sharing, over-shaving, and embracing life without a filter.

Edinburgh reviews:

★★★★ 'Broadbent's unique style fuses exquisitely crafted lyrics with precise observational comedy... Think somewhere between Bridget Jones and Victoria Wood and you'll be close to grasping Broadbent's undeniable appeal.' THE STAGE.

★★★★★ 'If I could give this show six stars then I would – Get Ugly is the must-see show at this year’s EdFringe. WEST END FRAME

★★★★★ 'Laughs by the bucket-load.. One day you will see her on TV and tell anyone who will listen that you ‘found’ her on the Fringe.. You owe it to your future self to see this show!' MUSICAL THEATRE REVIEW.

★★★★★ 'She sings like a dream and is ridiculously funny.. do not miss this show!' WEST END WILMA.

SEPTEMBER 10 2013 Praise for Tamar at the Launch of the London Festival of Cabaret

Tamar felt privileged to perform at the Launch of the London Festival of Cabaret on 9 September, alongside cabaret royalty Barb Jungr, Olivier-award-winning actress Leigh Zimmerman and her rock star husband Domenick Allen!

"Last up was the multi-talented and very funny Broadbent, a 23-year-old from Surrey just back from doing her one-woman show Almost Epic at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with ‘Patrick’, about an am-dram romance that never quite gets off the ground, and an affectionate one about her biker-rocker dad called ‘He Only Speaks Rock’. If this performer doesn’t make it to the very top, there’s something very wrong with the world.."

SEPTEMBER 10 2013 Itchy 5* review of Tamar Broadbent: Almost Epic

"...These songs are witty, portray the modern life of the youth today in many different ways, and let's not forget to mention they will leave you in stitches. Tamar herself is utterly charming, full of energy and commitment. She is adorably awkward. You will want to be her friend by the end of it.

From mathematics and boobs, from chavs to true love, her songs and comedy will tickle this generation as well as being entertaining for the Dad’s out there. So whether you’re old or young go and support her quest to become a Rock star, and get your air guitars going."

AUGUST 13 2013 Broadway Baby 5* review of Tamar Broadbent: Almost Epic  http://www.broadwaybaby.com/listing.php?id=22372

"...A little spitfire of a songstress has entered the forum of the Fringe, bound for greatness...An absolutely adorable pixie of a girl, Tamar has the whole package, with lightning fast comedic strokes, side-splitting timing, and an impressive set of pipes. Ms. Broadbent, her own one-man band on vocals and keyboard, regales us with her love of all things maths and music, her years as a hard core rapper and her unfortunate first romance with Rick, whose name has a surprising number of rhyming options...Every element of the show is spot on to support this tour-de-force performance, from truly innovative and surprisingly musically complex songs to truly awful dance moves, anecdotes about her unique and inspirational family of eccentrics, years of ‘paying her dues’ and even a nice helping of audience interaction. By the end, you too will find yourself on your feet cheering for this tiny hopeful pop princess to make it big.

MAY 19 2013'17 Drafts' wins Runner-Up Prize and Special Commendation at Stiles & Drewe Best New Song Award

On Sunday 19th May Tamar was awarded runner-up prize and a 'special commendation' in the Stiles and Drewe Best New Song Award 2013 for her song '17 Drafts'. This national competition for new emerging British musical theatre writers took place at the Garrick Theatre alongside the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year Award.

The competition was judged by renowned musical theatre writing duo, George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, along with Adam Cork, writer of the award-winning musical London Road. Other judges present on the day were Michael Grandage, Imelda Staunton, Edward Seckerson, Matthew Scott, Michael Haslam and Bert Fink. First prize went to the outstanding composer Tim Sutton, also winner of the competition in 2011, for his song 'That Once-In-a-Lifetime Feeling'. However, at the last minute, the judges said they were compelled to invent a second prize and awarded it to the young songwriter, along with a cheque to go towards the development of her work.

Out of the 12 finalists of the competition, Tamar was the only solo female composer involved. She composed '17 Drafts' two years ago whilst studying English at the University of Bristol. Yesterday, she saw it performed on a West End stage, and receive second prize in a national competition. It was a huge honour for her just to have been involved, let alone to have gotten this kind of recognition. Thank you so much to everyone for their continued support!
